In Cecil Yates’ self-aggrandizing letter a couple of weeks ago, he says helping his community is a job “I’m pretty good at.” That’s a surprising appraisal from someone who has cost the town so much money and created so many problems.

Throwing away $40,000 on a useless lagoon study, mishandling the firing of the town attorney – costing the town an extra $160,000 last year and at least $50,000 more this year – and posting a testimonial for Shea, although he sued the town, does not qualify as doing a good job.

Check out an example of the problems Yates’ focus on development at any cost have caused by driving down the alley between Park Place and the assisted living facility. The back of the assisted living facility is now facing a huge concrete parking ramp with bright lights. Residents in the back of the assisted living building look straight at this monstrosity and their back patio now looks at the ugly parking garage, likely affecting marketability of the back units. This is what high density, poorly thought-out plans look like.

Another example of not enforcing approved plans is the absence of the “pocket parks” with Park Place. The plans show a park at the end of the building on the side by Town Hall, helping to humanize the building. But that was left out, and in a display of no common sense, the handicapped parking places were left. After it was pointed out that they now lead to nowhere and didn’t meet code, the handicap markings have been covered with black paint. These are the kind of favors Yates has advocated for repeatedly to reward developers.

We don't need more of this! Vote for Ginny, someone who respects our town codes.
