Saddened

Posted

I’ve seen a side of Fountain Hills that saddens me. As the Daybreak presentation was being made at the Sept. 12 Planning and Zoning commission meeting, a woman opposing the project posted on Fountain Hills Connection that CopperWynd is pushing Daybreak as housing for the minimum-wage employees it will need following its expansion.

She further said that no one need worry about excess cars parked at Daybreak because the people living there won’t be able to afford cars and will be bused to their jobs. She opined that Daybreak would be converted to Section 8 housing.

A kindred spirit joined her, repeatedly referring to potential Daybreak residents as “riffraff.” This is how he described hard-working people who might like to live in Fountain Hills, contribute to our community and be our neighbors.

By most accounts, the Daybreak opponents attending the meeting behaved like a mob. One woman reported being loudly harangued after asking the couple seated in front of her to please be a little quieter so she could hear the proceedings. A number of attendees reported that they left in disgust before the meeting was over.

People have personally attacked the developer online simply because they assume he is successful and wealthy. Envious much?

I don’t know the man, but is this the treatment he deserved when all he did was offer a project for a parcel that is privately owned and zoned for development?

Is this really the best we can do in “The Hills?”
