Plain ugly

Posted

People of Fountain Hills, there’ve been ads generated by Cecil Yates’ supporter, John Kavanagh’s PAC, that are just plain ugly! This is dirty politics, based in untruthful rhetoric, insincere hand-shaking and unfounded accusations. He’s turned a civil, civic contest into a name-calling, childish, bullying scenario.

What has happened to decency and respect in politics? Is that the kind of ethics we want representing our town?

My mom’s favorite saying was, “Don’t fight, play nice.” People have said she made our dreams and ambitions achievable and inspired us. That includes her 15 grandkids, 12 who went to school right here in Fountain Hills. Ginny and I share the same mom, the same values, dedication and follow-through; the same kind spirit.

Perhaps that’s why in the 30-plus years our family has called Fountain Hills home, we have an award-winning theater, a design artist and muralist whose work has adorned homes and businesses for years, an accountant who has served many of you as clients and was active in the Chamber and the Photography Club, an orthopedist who has mended many of your limbs, and Ginny, who has been on council, school board, theater board and participated in state-level political arenas.

We’re all “doers” with the intelligence to complete our homework. We’ve raised our kids here and the Russo name is respected. Our dad’s sculpture, “Brothers,” sits outside of Council Chambers and our brother’s statue, “Mirth and Melancholy,” stands at the entrance to the Community Center. We all love this town and were never motivated by self-service.

Please don’t let a mean campaign rule the way we think. Know the facts, not just the fiction you see in ads.

“It’s sure to be dark if you close your eyes.” Our town is visually beautiful, let’s make sure the heart remains just as beautiful.
