Last week’s letter concerning road and pedestrian safety caused by speeding drivers resonated with me on the related issue of excessive automobile noise.
While only a small percentage of drivers in town exceed the speed limit, these are the exact same drivers who exceed legal noise levels when accelerating. At the recent Coffee with a Cop I inquired about the monitoring of road noise and was told that the only noise control done in town is for excess party noise. I would submit, however, that if our police would pay attention to noisy cars they would soon discover a speeding car, which they could then cite on both counts.
The classic intersection in which to observe this issue is to monitor traffic leaving the intersection of Palisades and Golden Eagle, particularly those going west on Palisades. And don’t simply focus on autos because motorcycles are bigger offenders of both speed and noise ordinances in our town.
