The Times let its community down with its last issue. The attack ads against one of our mayoral candidates were full of lies. Those ads were placed by John Kavanagh through a PAC that he and Linda Kavanagh originally created with financing by Mrs. Bart Shea. The financial entanglements of this group and its support of Cecil Yates are worrisome.

One of these ads says that Ginny Dickey won’t keep our children safe. She served eight years on the FHSD school board! Do you really think she doesn’t care about children’s safety? The other ad says she will increase your property taxes. Just how would a mayor go about doing that and when has she ever said such a thing?

The Times’ decision to knowingly accept advertisements with inflammatory lies gives this town a black eye. I still hear bellyaching about the time the paper asked an anti-property tax group to edit their advertisement because it wasn’t factual. Apparently, something has changed.

The Kavanaghs have also started promoting their candidate as a Republican, totally ignoring the fact that this is intended to be a non-partisan election, a possible ethics violation for two sitting public officials.

It is imperative and the responsibility of true journalists to investigate and inform the public and their readership using factual information. We depend on you not to add to the misinformation and lies that abound in other resources.
