John Kavanagh thinks that the legislature has found a “fair balance” in its relationship with Arizona cities. I say Alan Magazine got it right, the state does not contribute a fair share to communities like Fountain Hills.
For example, our new safety fee is necessary due to the state’s lack of oversight of the Safety Personnel Retirement System, making us liable for that huge pension debt. Kavanagh and his fellow legislators have neglected to enact reforms that would have lifted this burden from small communities like Fountain Hills, who now face reductions in basic services. Not a fair balance!
