'Worship Directory' and Halloween

Posted

It’s a big week here at The Times as we publish our first ever Worship Directory, which you should find conveniently inserted in this week’s edition of the paper.

This is just the latest in our growing list of special publications, with the majority of the undertaking being handled by Linda McThrall, Duke Kirkendoll and the marketing team.

Publisher Brent Cruikshank actually brought the idea for a Worship Directory back from a National Newspaper Association convention in Oklahoma last year. He attended a session where publishers and editors shared ideas about how to reach more members of their community, while simultaneously giving local businesses more targeted ways to reach their customers.

Fountain Hills and nearby Scottsdale are home to many churches and religious organizations, each operating as their own community of folks sharing their faith and friendship. To many, a place of worship can become a second home or the focal point of their weekly activities, so we wanted to give our readers the ability to, at a glance, learn what options are available in and around Fountain Hills.

Participating places of worship were happy to share their details in the guide, including all of their contact info, particulars concerning the church’s operations and mission, scheduled general services and more.

We hope this will be an invaluable guide to our readers, including those looking for a religious community to call their own, newcomers to the area and those who simply need to reach out to local churches from time to time.

We look forward to delivering extra copies of our Worship Directory to local churches, too, as it helps illustrate how these individual establishments are themselves part of a greater community united by faith.

On a completely unrelated note, if you notice a little extra pep in my step, it’s because the Halloween season is officially upon us.

Sure, I decorated the house two weeks ago but, in my defense, I had just finished a top-to-bottom cleaning and figured it would be easier to just get the decorations up and be done with it.

I’m on a roll this holiday season, with half a dozen movies already under my belt as part of my annual Halloween Movie Marathon Extravaganza. I find scaring the bejesus out of myself on a regular basis is a good way to get in the holiday spirit. I figure if folks can watch a new Lifetime movie every evening leading up to Christmas, I should be allowed to watch a few spooky flicks a week with Halloween on the horizon.

Heck, I even managed to nail down my costume nice and early this year, meaning I won’t have to put up with the traditional last-minute panic of trying to figure out what to wear. If you happen to spot a scary, pumpkin-faced scarecrow strolling through Halloween in the Hills, be sure to say hello!
