White pages and leadership group

Posted

We recently announced changes to the residential and business directory. We heard the response from the advertisers and residents. We listened, and we will go back to having residential listings along with our business listings in the white pages.

However, we need your help. Please fill out the coupon on page 14A (email changes to kip@fhtimes.com). This will help us know if you have an address change or a change to your home number. Also, please contact us if you would like to be deleted from the residential listings.

Residents and advertisers were not really big on the change we announced. Some voiced their concern that a traditional publication as it has been in the past would change.

The staff gathered and thought the time was right to make the change. Turns out we were off on the timing. After hearing from you we have decided to keep the white pages as is. If you are a business looking to get your name out to the public, this is the book to be in.

I know many will tell you that nobody uses a phonebook anymore but many can tell you they do and current advertisers in the book can tell you about the great response they get each year.

If interested in an ad in the 2019 directory please contact an advertising rep here at The Times. We will provide you rates as well as assistance on ad design. If you sign up on or before Oct. 19, you will receive 10 percent discount on the ad cost.

In its second year I participated in the Leadership Academy. This year we passed the torch to class three. I had the honor, along with Scott Sommers and Tom Lindsey to lead this group the past two weeks. Tom and I took the class to each of the schools in the area and enjoyed a great lunch in the high school cafeteria.

I chose that week of because I attended all the schools with the exception of the middle school. It brings back memories as I walk down the halls as well as give me the chance to get updates on the schools today.

This past week Scott and I led the group which started here at The Fountain Hills Times. My father stayed behind one more day before traveling back to Nevada to speak to the group. I introduced my father which got me a little nervous. I took a deep breath and introduced Mr. Fountain Hills Alan Cruikshank to the class.

My father has been battling Parkinson’s; he has slowed down but his mind is sharp when it comes to the memories of this town he loves very much. When I asked him to stay behind one more day he said, of course. He believes in this group and loves what The Leadership Academy is all about.

After, we traveled over to the Fire Station where Fire Chief Dave Ott gave a presentation followed by a demonstration of a search and rescue in an event of a fire. A big applause to our local firefighters who put their lives on the line in emergencies.

We then heard a presentation by Capt. Hank Brandimarte about our local sheriff’s department and how it operates. After the presentation, Hank led us to The Fountain Park where the class had a surprise helicopter landing by the department, along with opportunities to sit in the chopper.

I also want to give a big thank you to the All American Grill for letting the group have lunch to end the day. We had a great time and got to enjoy a great meal to cap the day off.

Class three of the leadership is a great class. They are excited about learning the behind-the- scenes of Fountain Hills. I want to say thank you to class three for giving me the chance to lead. I look forward to graduation and seeing the projects each of you come up with.
