“The phonebooks are here, the phonebooks are here.” This was the classic quote from the movie “The Jerk” starring Steve Martin. This was my father’s favorite line from the movie.
It is that time of year when we start working on the phonebook for the Fountain Hills area. I am not a big fan of the word phonebook as I look at it as a residential and business directory. This year we are making some changes to the new directory.
It will be renamed the 2019 Fountain Hills and Verdes Business Directory. The word residential has been removed and the white pages of the directory will be business listings and not residential. Businesses have the opportunity to advertise one-third page ads on the listing pages which will be one of the new features.
We will also offer full page ads to run on the first three right hand pages of the directory. The yellow pages will be the same as we encourage our current advertisers to upgrade to full color if they are currently running a black and white ad.
We changed the look of the directory a few years back and made the publication full gloss and got away from newsprint. We heard positive feedback from the users as well as our advertisers.
I see our directory as unique. It’s clean and easy to read. I have been selling the directory for many years now and the clients I have running ads tell me that most of their business comes from this book.
There are so many avenues to advertise these days including the newspaper, social media and the web in general. You do get business from all of them but you will get so much more business from advertising in the directory.
We deliver to every household in Fountain Hills along with our annual Dining Guide which also gets great feedback and has coupons for the readers to use at local restaurants.
In March we deliver to every household in the Fountain Hills area along with distribution through the chamber tourism center, local business establishments and here at our office.
Letters will be going out in the next few weeks. Please contact your advertising rep to go over the new additions the 2019 Fountain Hills and Verdes Business Directory will have to offer. There is a 10% discount if paid by Oct. 19, 2018. If you’re a resident we encourage you to use the directory when looking for your next service job, real estate agent or whatever need you have.

We have seen an active monsoon this summer. Since the beginning of the monsoon season Fountain Hills has been leading the valley with the most amount of rain. We have received 5.08 inches of rain so far and we still have a few more weeks to go.
My father has been in New Jersey the last couple of months and he loves the monsoon season. I keep him updated on all the weather we are having and he did say back in the day Fountain Hills always led the valley in rain every monsoon.
The monsoon this summer reminds me of how they were as a kid growing up in Fountain Hills. Our house had a loft and I would always go up in the loft every early afternoon to watch the clouds form over the mountains in the east.
We will be coming out of the summer months soon. My next wish will be to have a chilly winter. This is also something we have not had the past few years.
We are having a great monsoon season; now let’s bring on a cool fall and winter. Stay cool and dry out there.
