I know both candidates for mayor and both have this town’s best interests at heart. I know when it comes to these elections, we all feel differently about the vision each has shared. Many feel this race is the most important in the town’s history.

I have seen arguments on both sides on social media and have had people come up to me outside the office to get my opinion on the race. The newspaper has to stay neutral when it comes to the elections so I am not able to really speak, but I do listen.

The Fountain Hills Times did endorse the property tax. We felt after all the research, this town needed the tax. The community spoke; the tax failed and now the town will have to find other ways to raise the money to fix the roads and the Fountain.

The Fountain is the landmark of this town, and decisions will have to be made on the pump equipment and replacing the lake liner in a few years.

There are many issues we need to resolve in Fountain Hills. Each candidate has addressed those issues and how they would like to handle them.

I encourage the voters to go to YouTube (youtube.com/watch?v=l_LpwAta38A&t=188s)and watch the mayoral debate, if you have not done so already. Take a look at the Q&A’s the paper has provided the past six weeks and really get to know the candidates.

I took over as publisher back in January, and I have learned so much since then. It is hard at times to stay neutral in certain issues but as publisher of the local newspaper, it is my job.

Some of you have made your minds up long ago or possibly recently. Now comes the question of who will the local newspaper endorse in this race.

This is usually the big question when I am approached. I haven’t discussed the answer with anyone because as a business and especially the local newspaper, I want to hear and really know both sides before we come up with an answer.

My staff and I will vote individually. We won’t discuss how we voted.

The Fountain Hills Times would like to endorse the public. The public spoke when it came to the property tax and it was loud and clear. And the community will make its choice on August 28.

The Fountain Hills Times is your local and reliable news source that has always been down the middle in news coverage. The direction the town decides to go in the mayor’s race, we will support. We fully support the Town of Fountain Hills and will work with the new mayor and council of this beautiful town.

Don’t forget to vote, and I personally want to thank Linda Kavanagh for serving as our mayor over the past 6 1/2 years.
