Walter William Dunne, Jr. passed away June 25, 2019 in Fountain Hills, Arizona.
Walt was born on May 30, 1947 to Margaret and Walter, Sr. in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from St. Josephs College with a BA in Arts in 1969 and St. Xavier College in 1972 with a Master’s of Arts degree.
He was a life-long educator; a teacher at Brother Rice High School in Chicago, and then a math teacher with District 159 in Matteson, Ill. Later, he was a principal and then business manager for the school district. In 1986 he became the assistant superintendent of School District 159.
But Arizona captured Walt’s heart and in 1987 he accepted the position of superintendent of Fountain Hills Unified School District #98, where he served until his retirement in 1998.
He loved Fountain Hills and served on many committees. He was a member of the Museum board, Kiwanis and Senior Services. Walter was a dear friend to many.
