Diana (Di) Jones passed away at 1 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2018, at the Sherman Home Hospice of the Valley facility in Scottsdale.
She was born Nov. 29, 1924 in Burnsville, Va., Francis Diana Samples to Charles William Samples and Fannie Josephine (Helms) Samples.
She served in the U.S. Navy as a flight steward. That’s how she met Albert Lee Jones (Al), who was piloting the Navy transport plane they both served on. They got married in Arlington, Va. on Aug. 31, 1946.
They had four sons: Albert Lee II (Lee) [deceased], Charles Pierce, Donald Paul, and Phillip David.
Diana later became a reservation agent for US Airlines in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Diana and Al moved to Fountain Hills in 1987.
She is survived by three sons, Charles (Debbie) of Fountain Hills, Donald (Peggy) of Elizabeth, Colo. and Phillip (Eloyse) of Fountain Hills; seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at Messengers Funeral Home in Fountain Hills, Ariz., 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018. A reception will follow at the same facility.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sherman Home Hospice of the Valley, 5801 E. Mayo Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85054.
