The Town Council has granted Verizon Wireless a second six-month extension on its special use permit to install a cellular antenna system on the roof of the Park Place apartments on Avenue of the Fountains.
The permit allows the antenna and associated rooftop equipment to exceed the maximum building height of 54 feet by approximately two and one half feet.
The equipment is expected to improve cellular reception for residences and businesses in the downtown area.
The permit was first granted in June of 2018 and extended in January after no building plans had been submitted. The second extension gives the company another six months to submit plans.
Senior Planner Marissa Moore said she has been told the plans are about ready for submittal. She was uncertain about the reasons for the delay, but said she had been told by the applicant that there were some engineering issues associated with the rooftop screening requested by the town.
