New garden growing season begins soon

To kick off the spring growing season, the Community Garden will sponsor a planting class at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, in the garden located adjacent to the Fountain Hills Branch Library.
Carol Stuttard, a Maricopa County Master Gardener since 2001, will lead the class.
She will identify the best vegetables to grow and the ideal time to plant them. She will also provide tips on soil preparation and watering crops in a raised bed.
The class will be free for garden members or $5 for non-members. The annual membership fee to join the garden is $10.
Feb. 2 will be a work day in the garden from 10 a.m. to noon.
Feb. 15 is the target date to plant crops. Seeds can also be started in the new greenhouse.
Charlotte McCluskey will teach a class, “Grow like a pro in less than 30 minutes,” from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Community Center.
The technique is modern container gardening using GreenEra Grow Bags to produce vegetables and flowers on a patio.
A garden social is planned from 5 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 13. The free event is open to the public.
