On Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, the four veterans’ organizations of Fountain Hills will conduct a remembrance ceremony at the Fountain Hills Memorial Plaza honoring those who gave their all in service to their country.
The ceremony will begin at 9 am. The American Legion Post 58 National Military Class Champion Color Guard will post the Colors. Debbie Fisher will sing the national anthem and play Taps. Sam Coffee, 1st Vice-Commander of AMVETS Post 7 will open the ceremony and the commanders of all three supporting posts – VFW Post 7507, American Legion Post 58, and Marine Corps League Detachment 1439 – will give brief addresses.
The Keynote Speaker, Dr. Spencer Beck, completed his Psychology Doctorate at the Arizona School of Professional Psychology and his internship at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo, Institute for Forensic Psychology.
He serves as the Local Recovery Coordinator (LRC) and REACH VET Coordinator for the Phoenix VA Medical Center. Dr. Beck’s interests are working with veterans with Borderline Personality Disorder, suicide prevention, and working with community partners, including BeConnectedAZ, which focuses on upstream suicide prevention strategies.
VFW Post 7507 will be handing out free Buddy Poppies to all and the VFW Post 7507 Foundation, a 501(c)3 foundation, will be selling the iconic Red Shirt Friday shirts.
Additionally, VFW members will be giving away small American flags as a part of the ACE/VFW cooperative “One Million Flag Giveaway” program.
Attendees at the Memorial ceremony are encouraged to wear Red Shirt Friday shirts or other patriotic clothing.
Veterans and members of Veterans Service Organizations (AmVets, VFW, American Legion, and Marine Corps League, etc.) are encouraged to wear uniform parts or organizational clothing.
