Lt. Summers number two for District 7

Posted

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Summers was assigned as second in command for District 7 based in Fountain Hills a little over a month ago, taking the place of the retiring Lt. John D’Amico

Summers was born in Missouri, but came to Arizona 34 years ago and was raised in the Northeast Valley. He attended Chaparral High School and graduated from Cactus Shadows High School.

He attended Arizona State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies.

Summers said he grew up with an interest in law enforcement. He recalls hearing stories of his lawman grandfather participating in stakeouts on the lookout for the notorious bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde.

Summers began his career with MCSO as a reserve deputy and posse member about 18 years ago. He was attending ASU and working as a stock broker at the time.

“I enjoyed working with MCSO and decided to make a career of it,” Summers said.

He was hired as a deputy about 13 years ago. He previously served in District 4 North based out of Cave Creek. At that time Fountain Hills was District 4 South, so he had an opportunity to become familiar with this community.

He has worked in the patrol bureau three times in his career and he has also been assigned to the tactical operations team (SWAT), enforcement support, major crimes and training divisions. He has also served duty as watch commander, a rotating assignment for command officers.

Summers is married and has two daughters.
