Holidays will close with balloon glow

If you have never seen a hot air balloon glow, you’re in for a huge treat on Saturday, Dec. 29, in Fountain Park.

Six balloons will inflate from within and illuminate like giant bulbs from 7 to 9 p.m.

Pilots will coordinate firing up the burners. The balloons will be situated close to the lake so their reflections will be visible in the water.

In planning the debut event, organizer Phyliss Kern of Kern Entertainment said it was her expectation that spectators would patronize nearby restaurants during their visit. No food trucks will be at the location.

The free event is sponsored by the town and an assortment of individuals and businesses who donated money.

Disc jockey Steve Grocz will play recorded music from Kern’s show mobile.

Kern was motivated to bring back the balloons after some residents told her they missed them on the Avenue of the Fountains during the Stroll in the Glow.

Kern said she contacted Shane Cory, owner of Aerogelic Ballooning in Phoenix, to supply balloonists. His parents, Phillip and Angelica Cory, both commercial pilots, provided the balloons for the town in the early 2000s.

Kern said she still is accepting donations for the event
