Council approves sales tax hike

Posted

The local sales tax (transaction privilege tax) for the Town of Fountain Hills will jump by .3 percent as of Nov. 1 with council approval of the increase at its Aug. 13 session.

The council approved the hike on a 5-2 vote with council members Art Tolis and David Spelich dissenting.

The addition will increase the local sales tax from 2.6 percent to 2.9 percent and the overall sales tax in the town (including state and county) from 8.9 to 9.2 percent.

Mayor Ginny Dickey noted the increase amounts to 30-cents on $100 purchased. The increase is expected to raise approximately $1 million in additional revenue per year.
