The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update related to the spate of vehicle burglaries that occurred in Fountain Hills between May 3 and May 6.

A total of 16 vehicles were broken into during the period and reports are the vehicles were unlocked or, where owners were uncertain, there were no signs of forced entry, leading detectives to believe all the vehicles hit were unlocked.

Three vehicles were stolen in Fountain Hills with at least two of those recovered in Scottsdale. There were two vehicles stolen elsewhere that were recovered in Fountain Hills, leading investigators to believe the suspects were trading vehicles frequently.

Victims reported three firearms stolen during the burglaries, with one of those recovered from a separate vehicle that was broken into.

There was an estimated $5,000 in personal property value stolen from the various vehicles with items ranging from electronic equipment to sunglasses, as well as cash and loose change.

The investigation is continuing.

*On Thursday, May 2, a resident of the 14200 block of Aspen Drive reported someone had charged items to her credit card in California that were not her charges.

*On Thursday, May 2, deputies received a report of a wedding ring valued at $6,000 and $200 cash stolen from a residence in the14200 block of Ashbrook Drive.

*On Monday, May 6, a business owner in the 12000 block of Saguaro Blvd. reported two flower pots valued at $100 each were stolen from the business.

*On Wednesday, May 8, deputies responded with firefighters to a vehicle fire on Saguaro Blvd. near Trevino Drive. The vehicle caught fire while it was being driven. There were no injuries and no previous mechanical issues noted.

*On Saturday, May 4, deputies were called to a vehicle collision at Palisades and Shea boulevards. A driver changing lanes struck a vehicle in another lane. No injuries were reported.

*On Monday, May 6, there was a vehicle collision in a residential neighborhood near Echo Hill and Brodiea drives. One driver attempted to pass the other vehicle on the left and collided.

*On Sunday, May 5, deputies reported a vehicle collision at Saguaro Blvd. and Panorama Drive. One driver pulled out from a stop and struck another vehicle that continued without stopping.

*On Saturday, May 11, MCSO called out its vehicle crimes unit to investigate a single vehicle motorcycle crash on Palisades Blvd. near El Lago Blvd. The male operator of the motorcycle was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, according to MCSO.

*On Thursday, May 2, deputies responded to a vehicle collision on Shea Boulevard and Eagle Mountain Parkway. One driver ran a red light and collided with the second vehicle. There were minor injuries.

*On Monday, May 6, a driver went through a stop sign at La Montana Drive and Saguaro Boulevard and collided with a vehicle traveling north on Saguaro. There were injuries in this collision.

*On Thursday, May 9, 12:47 p.m., burglary at a business, 15100 block of Westridge Drive.

*On Thursday, May 9, 12:22 p.m., theft, 11400 Saguaro Blvd.

Between May 2, and May 8, deputies handled 292 incidents, including those initiated by their contact. There were 55 reports taken.
