The national popular vote is the topic of discussion at the next Fountain Hills Republic Club meeting.

The group meets Saturday, Aug. 17, at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Community Center.

Constitutionalists Bob Hathorne and Tim Horn will discuss the unique way Americans select the president. The two will present the implications of a national popular vote compared with the current Electoral College system. The electoral system was created by the founders.

Chris Brant, who does publicity for the local Republican Club, said the Aug. 17 meeting is important. Decisions in Arizona could affect the long-term outcome of elections in the United States forever, he said.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Complimentary coffee and light breakfast refreshments will be served. The meeting starts at 9 a.m.

Brant also said the club is planning a picnic for Oct. 19 with details announced at the upcoming meeting. Attendees will be asked to register early so food can be ordered. There will be a cost to attend the picnic.

The monthly social will be held at the All-American Sports Grill Wednesday, Aug. 28, starting at 5 p.m.
