Ruso returns to theater as 'Liza and Judy'

Fountain Hills Theater is bringing back a couple of super stars.

Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli will reappear on the Mainstage when Patrick Russo plays the mother-daughter team in “Judy & Liza: Together Again” in two shows. The first is Friday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m., with the second show set for Saturday, March 30, at the same time.

Tickets are on sale now for $125 per person. A special VIP Meet & Greet Reception is available for the first 50 people to sign up for the $25 event. The VIP party includes champagne, a signed photograph of Russo, and an opportunity to take a picture with him. All proceeds benefit the theater.

Russo recreates an unforgettable evening of impersonation, bringing to life the songs of the two women. He will end the night singing a few songs as himself.

Russo presented the show at the theater in 2017. The first show sold out, with a second show added.

For tickets, visit fhtaz.org or call the theater, 480-837-9661, ext. 3.

Russo has played the mother-daughter team in the past, beginning with an accidental occasion to play Liza in Chicago.

At one event over a 10-year period, he helped raise more than $1 million performing a show called “Who’s that Girl?” in a 1,000 seat theater in Chicago. He impersonated Liza and Judy, as well as Pat Benatar, Madonna and Gloria Estefan in that show.

“Liza is my best, I think,” Russo said when he was interviewed before the 2017 show. “She is just a lot of fun to do.”
