Summer theater camp starts June 3

Fountain Hills Theater’s summer camps begin next week.

In addition to sessions for seven to 14 year olds, the theater has added two programs for children five to nine.

The sessions for the younger children run through June 14. Older groups can attend camp through Aug. 2.

The sessions are as follows:

Session 1 for children 5 to 9: The first program is Monday through Friday, June 3-7, from 9 a.m. to noon. Children 5-9 will gain confidence playing creative theater games in a non-competitive environment in “Theater & Improv Fun.” Cost is $100.

Session 2 for children 5 to 7: The second session is “Princesses and Superheroes” for children 5 to 7. The program runs from June 10 to 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Children will learn dancing and singing and being creative. Students will perform for friends and family on the final day of class. Cost is $100.

Events for older students follow:

Session 1: Audition Methods, Monday through Friday, June 3-14; half day, 9 a.m.-noon ($250); full-day, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. ($425).

Prepare for auditions by working on monologues, songs and choreography. Develop a monologue, song, television monologue and resume and more.

Session 2: “Aristocats Kids: Monday through Friday, June 17-28. Full day option only, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. ($425).

Perform in the musical. This no-cut production has great roles for all experience levels. The theater will partner with Fearless Kitty Rescue an host a pet adoption after the final show. Perform for the public on the final day of camp.

Session 3: “Shrek Jr.” Three weeks, Monday through Friday, July 8-26. Full day option only, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. ($625).

Perform in “Shrek Jr.” This no-cut production has great roles for all experience levels. Dance, sing and act in the musical based on the movie. Perform for the public on the final day of camp.

Session 4: Acting and Improvisation. One week, Monday through Friday, July 29-Aug. 2. Half-day, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. ($150); full day, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. ($250).

The ability to think fast and respond with poise is a skill needed in life. Improv is a fun way to develop the skill. The camp focuses on acting, scene study, improv, monologues and public speaking.
