The next concert in the Arts at Ascension series is Friday, Feb. 8.

The concert, featuring Catalin Rotaru accompanied by Wan Ting Yu, begins at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension.

Catalin Rotaru, who plays double bass, joined Arizona State University School of Music in 2005.

He is a graduate of the National University of Music from Bucharest, Romania, and holds a master’s degree in music performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He taught at a number of universities and performed in several orchestras around the world. He has won numerous awards and has recorded several CDs.

Rotaru has been a frequent solo performer and recitalist and has given master classes at many prestigious institutions and festivals in the United States, Asia, Europe and South America.

Wan Ting Yu began showing a high level of interest and aptitude toward music at a young age.

She began playing piano when she was three and double bass when she was 10. In 2015, she was offered a full-time position in the Taipei Symphony Orchestra.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the National Taiwan Normal University and her Master’s Degree in Double Bass performance at Taipei National University of Arts.

She has won a number of prizes both as a pianist and a bassist. As a bass player, Wan Ting won numerous competitions and accolades for her technically advanced and musically mature playing:

Tickets for the concert are $30 per person for priority seating and $25 per person for general admission.

The net proceeds will be donated to the fine arts department at St. Matthew School. St. Matthew is an inner-city Catholic K-8 school that provides a comprehensive dual language education to further the lives of students and families.
