'Books for Homebound' popular, necessary

The popular volunteer program, Books for the Homebound, is sponsored by the Fountain Hills Friends of the Library.

The service is available at no charge to residents who are homebound for any reason, whether temporarily or permanently, and have a current library card or are eligible to obtain one.

Participants will receive an initial visit from a volunteer to introduce them to the service and to complete registration forms. At the initial meeting, it will be determined what genre of books or particular authors or music CDs are preferred by the patron. Books are available in various formats, including large print, audio and digital download.

Every other week, volunteers spend about two hours checking out, delivering and returning books. Many of the volunteers and patrons have worked together for a long time and have become good friends.

For information about the program, or to become a volunteer, call Books for the Homebound and leave a message at 602-652-3271.
