A little of this, a little of that

Well, I can simply say Christmas is finally over in our household.

Two weeks ago, Diane flew with a suitcase full of presents for a late Christmas with daughter Tammy and her family in New Jersey.

They couldn’t make it out here for Christmas, so it was a good excuse for Diane to spend most of a week with the grandkids in New Jersey.

She came home exhausted, especially when her flight home on Sunday night, Jan. 14, was an hour late getting in.

Then we celebrated Christmas again last weekend in Las Vegas with Diane’s daughter Toni and husband Jason. She had to work until 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve and had to be at work at 9 a.m. on the day after Christmas.

We brought a mini-Christmas tree with small ornaments and lights and set it up on the entertainment center of our hotel room.

We exchanged gifts the first night we were there, and the rest of the weekend we played tourist and enjoyed each other’s company.

One of our stopping points on our walking tour was the City Center, where Toni works at the Roberto Cavalli high-end fashion shop. All of the stores in the mall are high priced. Toni is number one in sales in her store. We met the store manager and she was all smiles about Toni’s  sales and outgoing attitude.

Incidentally, this was our first drive to Las Vegas since the new bridge over Boulder Dam opened. You don’t even know that you are that high up because of walls along each side of the road. Traffic flowed easily across the bridge saving us some 15 to 30 minutes on the drive.

Congratulations to Sherry Sledge for being named Fountain Hills Business Person of the Year.

She is the owner of BodyWorks Center for Perfect Health.

In accepting the award, she said, “The honor gives me something good to talk about. I think people appreciate working with people who are involved in the community. I like what I do and I do what I like.”

She got into therapeutic massage literally by accident. Make that three accidents, one boating and two automobile. She suffered chronic pain from those accidents.

After getting relief from therapeutic massage, she gave up a 24–year career in real estate and began her study of holistic massage therapy. She got the relief she had been seeking and she’s been providing relief for others ever since.

If you are looking for something fun to do Saturday night, there is a fundraiser for the River of Time Museum at the Holiday Inn.

A western-style buffet will be featured. Tickets are $25 and will be sold at the door. The event is from 5 to 9 p.m.

There will be entertainment and drink specials and all of the proceeds benefit the museum.

Congratulations to the Four Peaks Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The chapter celebrated its 10th anniversary this month.

During the celebration, the chapter presented The Times a certificate of appreciation for its coverage of the organization over the past decade.
