Father's Day, Diane's trip, book sales

Well, I hope you dads had as nice of a Father’s Day as I did.

Son Brent and I had breakfast together at Phil’s Filling Station restaurant before heading into Phoenix to see the Diamondbacks play the Chicago White Sox.

Kris Fanelli and his son, Noah, went with us. We had a good time even though the Diamondbacks lost, 8-2. It was the biggest Sunday crowd I’ve seen in years.

A good amount of those in attendance were White Sox fans, but I do think the reason so many people were there was the fact that attending a baseball game with dad is a great way to celebrate Father’s Day.

I know the concessionaires must have liked it. Every line stretched across the walkways. That’s been a rare situation the past couple of seasons.

Everyone was enjoying their hot dogs, pizza, ice cream and chicken tenders.

I also received Father‘s Day phone calls from east coast daughter Tammy and from west coast daughter Holly. She informed me that her eight-month-old daughter, Addy, worked several days last week modeling for a company in San Diego. She got $200 per day, which all goes into her college fund.

Those big, round, blue eyes sure attract a lot of attention.

Diane had some funny stories about the eastern grandkids upon her return from New Jersey. Brandon, the oldest of daughter Tammy’s three children, is now three years old.

He loves his new baby sister, Brylee, and kisses her on the head just as he did kissing Tammy’s tummy when she was pregnant.

But one evening he started saying that Brylee had beautiful knees. Tammy couldn’t figure out what prompted that comment. She is a pretty baby but she has the typical baby chubby legs. She couldn’t figure out why Brandon would zero in on her knees.

It all came to a conclusion when Uncle Bobby stopped by the house to see “his beautiful niece.” Little Brandon said, “See beautiful knees.”

Everyone laughed hysterically.

Brody, the middle child, is going to be the bruiser in the family. I’m already picturing him in a Jets uniform as a future linebacker. He is already as heavy as Brandon although he is 18 months younger.

Diane came home totally worn out and with lots of sore muscles from carrying the kids around.

But, she said she loved every minute of her visit with the grandkids.

The Fountain Hills & Lower Verde River Valley Historical Society’s book signing session turned out well on Saturday.

More than 180 books were sold Friday and Saturday with most of those sales occurring at the book signing at the L. Alan Cruikshank River of Time Museum on Saturday. On hand for the signing were the three people responsible for producing it, myself, Jerry Miles and Jean Linzer.

We received plenty of compliments on the town history book and I especially appreciated all of the great comments about The Fountain Hills Times and my column.

One woman said she likes reading our newspaper because, “It makes me feel I’m home.”
