The Fountain Hills High School softball team, with the support of nearly 30 local businesses and the Phoenix Oncology Nursing Society, is looking to make a big difference in breast cancer awareness while raising funds for the cause.

On Saturday, April 17, the Lady Falcons will host their first ever Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

The game itself will begin at 11 a.m. with players from both Fountain Hills and visiting Scottsdale Christian wearing pink ribbons throughout the day, but the event actually begins at 9 a.m.

Anytime between 9-10:30 a.m., visitors to the game can donate $5 to pick up one of 15 dozen pink softballs donated by PONS.

Proceeds will go to the Wellness Community of Arizona, but along with giving $5 to the cause, donors will be privy to a slew of special offers provided by local businesses.

Balls will be given on a first come, first served basis, so everyone is encouraged to arrive early and stay after for the game.

After picking up your pink softball, the Lady Falcons will be available to give out five autographs per ball.

From April 17 to July 17, that ball can be presented to any of 26 local businesses for a plethora of discounts, some good for multiple uses.

From $10 off a meal to free sodas, food and percentages off purchases of meals, items and services, a $5 donation can evolve into massive discounts over the next three months.

Assistant Coach Joe Frosch did much of the leg work for this event and said he was stunned by the support he has already seen.

“The softball coaches presented this idea to Athletic Director Mike Briguglio and he loved the idea and told us to run with it,” Frosch said.

“So I went out and walked into tons of places around town to see if local businesses would be interested in taking part and the response was great.”

Frosch said there was no hesitation from any of the business managers he spoke with.

“Everyone got really excited and they couldn’t wait to get on board,” Frosch said.

“I was amazed by how quickly these people were willing to show their support.”

Frosch said he, the rest of the coaching staff and the Lady Falcons are very excited to be a part of this event.

“We’re asking everyone to support the cause, support our town and support your team,” Frosch said.

“I mean, this is big. Only a town like Fountain Hills can get away with something like this. For just a five dollar donation, we’ve got a couple dozen businesses ready to provide some great discounts. It’s a win for everyone involved.”

Frosch said he and the Lady Falcons would like to invite everyone out to the game to cheer on the team and take part in the cause so support breast cancer awareness.

“It’s going to be great to see the community come together on this,” Frosch said. “It’s a cohesive effort and it really does help out everyone involved.”

Don’t forget to mark those calendars for April 17 as the girls host their first Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

The donation drive and autograph session will run from 9-10:30 a.m. with the game set for 11 a.m. Benefits for those who donate will last until July 17.
