Jack R. Cassari Sr.

Jack R. Cassari Sr. passed away Jan. 27, 2010 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 18, 1944 in Superior, Wyo. to Harry and Ida Cassari.  He graduated from Rock Springs High School, Weber State University and the University of South Dakota where he received his law degree.

Jack began his career in 1974 as a labor attorney with Essex International in Ft. Wayne, Ind. and later became vice president of labor relations and human resources for Waste Management of Chicago, representing the company throughout the United States and Canada dealing with labor unions.

He relocated to Boise, Idaho, the Chicago area, Philadelphia, Houston, and Denver during his career. 

Jack also taught labor law. He went into private practice in 2003 with his consulting firm based in Fountain Hills.

Jack enjoyed traveling and loved the west and the mountains and was an avid hockey fan. He enjoyed fly fishing and would go whenever he had a chance. He was a dedicated supporter of his beloved Wyoming Cowboys and the University of Wyoming where a scholarship fund in his name will be established at their law school.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Harry Cassari, and his wife, Lynette S. Conn, of Van Wert, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Cherri, of Fountain Hills; son, Jack R. Cassari Jr., and wife, Leah, of Collegeville, Pa.; step-son, Brad Bozza; and step-grandson, Jake Bozza of Concord, N.H.; his brother, Harry, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; mother, Ida, residing in the San Diego, Calif. area; and many dear friends and acquaintances.

Services were conducted at the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church in Fountain Hills on Jan. 30, where Jack was a member and participated in the pastoral council.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting a donation be made in memory of Jack R. Cassari Sr. to the Cancer Research Institute (cancerresearch.org) to help find a cure.


Edward Charbonneau

Edward Charles “Bud” Charbonneau, of Sun City, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 27, 2010 with family members by his side.

He was born on May 14, 1927 in Adams, Mass. to Alfred and Alfreida (Fulde) Charbonneau. Bud attended Adams High School, Wilbraham Academy, and St. Bonaventure University; he excelled in sports at all three schools.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He and the former Doris Bourgeois were married on Sept. 30, 1950 at Notre Dame Church in North Adams, Mass.

He was the proprietor of CW Window Co. from 1954 to 1970 before moving to Arizona in 1970.

Besides his wife of nearly 60 years, he leaves his daughter, Nancy Walter, and her husband, Jim, of Fountain Hills; his four sons, Ken, and his wife, Darlene, of Sagle, Idaho, Ed, and his wife, Laurie, of Newberg, Ore, Dan, and his wife, Kathy, of Tucson, and Tom, of Ramona, Calif.

He was “Gramps” to 12 grandchildren: Michael Walter, Jaime Walter, and her husband, Devin Harvath, Alison Gerhart, and her husband, Patrick, Joshua, Matthew, Natalie, Karly, Kyle, Blake, Spencer, Daniela, and Carson Charbonneau; great-granddaughters, Morgan and Molly Walter, and great-grandson, Gerhart due in June. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Lisa; sisters-in-law, Denise Bourgeois Grande and Frances Kulpa Charbonneau, and numerous other loving family members.

He was predeceased by his parents; his only brother, Alfred (Frances) and his only sister, Margaret “Peg” Lanski (Theodore, deceased).

Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City.

Sherwin Jacobson

Sherwin Jacobson, 76, of Fountain Hills, passed away Jan. 29, 2010 in Phoenix. He was born March 19, 1933, in Chicago, Ill. and was a retired owner and operator of Sherwin’s Produce Store in Cicero, Ill.

He served in the Army from 1953-1955, and was a member of the Beth Hagivot Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore Jacobson of Fountain Hills; two daughters, Janene Preszno of Mesa, and Marla Cohen of Austin, Texas; two sons, Brian Cohen (Jill) of Lone Tree, Colo. and Cary Cohen (Linda) of Scottsdale; and seven grandchildren, Christina, Allie, Evan, Adam, Jessica, Samantha and Rebecca.

A graveside ceremony with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wed. Feb. 3, at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

 Arrangements were made by Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.


Jack H. Miner

Jack H. Miner, 87, of Rio Verde, a long time resident of Hammond, Munster, and St. John, Ind. where he lived from 1922 to 1985, died Jan. 29, 2010.

Mr. Miner was retired from the business he founded, Miner Electronics, in Munster, Ind.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Lee) of Phoenix, Joel of Crown Point, Ind., John (Suzanne) of Lake Zurich, Ill.; sister, Lois Scroggs of Sun City; six grand children and one great-grandson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Rio Verde Community Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home, Mesa, AZ.
