Floy Amaral

Floy (Durham) Amaral, a Fountain Hills resident, passed away Nov. 29, 2009. Floy was born in Dawson, Ga. in 1926. 

Floy leaves behind a loving family, including a daughter, Leslie (Michael) Patrick; and two sons, James Steven (Nancy), and Lyn (Cheri); four grandchildren, Tiffany (Jon) Kelley, Jennifer (Sam) Hays, Gregory Patrick, and Garrett Patrick; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Kelley; one brother, Melvin (Margaret) Durham; and her cat, Angela. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

Floy is remembered for her quick wit, sharp mind, and warm and loving heart. She passed gently into the hands of her Savior.

She was predeceased by husband, Lt. Col. James P. Amaral; parents Howe and Ila Durham; and six brothers and sisters.

She was the great-granddaughter of Dr. John Pryor Tapley Durham and Dr. Cassandra Pickett Durham (the first woman doctor in Georgia) and granddaughter of Annie Ruth Methvin, the poet laureate of the WCTU of Georgia. Floy’s family first settled in Virginia before 1644.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Hospice of the Valley, Sherman Home. 5801 E. Mayo Blvd., Phoenix, AZ 85054.

A celebration of Floy’s life will be held at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 Fountain Hills Blvd., at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 5. There will be a reception at the church following the service.

In the spring of 2010, Floy will join her husband, Jim, (buried in 1998) at Arlington National Cemetery.


Corolyn Krugel

On Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, Corolyn Krugel, age 93, of Fountain Hills passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Corolyn was born June 22, 1916 in Janesville, Minn. She married her husband, Loren, on Dec. 3, 1938. They resided in Mankato, Minn. and she assisted Loren, a golf professional, in the retail area of the golf business until they moved to Fountain Hills in 1979.

Corolyn was a member of the Fountain Hills Women’s Club and loved to play bridge with her many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracey Holland; one grandson, Ethan Holland; and one great-granddaughter, Kellie Marie Holland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Krugel; and two sisters, Frances Bluhm and Addie Dossett.
