A little of this and a little of that

From the comments I heard, I guess you like the new look and size of your hometown newspaper.

Most of you who responded to me about the changes said you like the new size the best. More than a couple said it is easier to hold. One gentleman said, “It fits better on my breakfast bar when I’m eating.”

One person said, “I like the fresh new look with the additional color. Change is good. You have to keep re-inventing your product to keep it interesting.”

Everybody seems to like the additional color that is throughout the pages of the newspaper. Our goal is to have color on every page. And local business operators should check with our advertising sales staff to see how inexpensive it is now to add color to your ad.

As I said, we will be making some more changes as we go along. I’m glad you like what we have done so far.

Be sure to check out the Fountain Hills Progress special section in this week’s edition.

It features stories and photos on the 20th anniversary of The Town of Fountain Hills. You can read about the events that led to the incorporation of a master planned community, what issues the councils have dealt with over the years and see photos of who served on those councils.

The special section is printed in our new tabloid format.

It’s going to be another busy weekend of special events.

As I just mentioned, the Town is celebrating 20 years of incorporation and there are a variety of activities planned this Saturday from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the Community Center.

That will be followed by the  Chamber’s Stroll in the Glow on the Avenue of the Fountains starting at 5:30 p.m.. That is a great family activity complete with snow and Santa.

The River of Time Museum is holding an open house both Saturday and Sunday with free admission from 1 to 4 p.m.  Cookies and punch will be served.

The Fountain Hills Historical Society will hold its annual Holiday Home Tour on Sunday starting at 4 p.m. There are six homes on the tour, and you can get tickets at the museum. And while you are at the museum, checkout the Holiday Mart in the Pattea Room. Arlie Denomme has done a fantastic job in putting together both the tour and the mart.

Wasn’t it a great morning for the Thanksgiving Day Parade?

I remember shivering for what seemed hours waiting for the parade to start in many past years. But not this one. The temperature was probably in the low 60s at parade time. It was fun seeing many of you as our River of Time Museum wagon passed by.

It’s wonderful seeing so many families out enjoying themselves together.

-------

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Diane and I flew over to Carlsbad, Calif., the weekend before for an early turkey dinner on Sunday at daughter Holly’s house. It was her first time to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner.

Then after the parade, we had two dinner stops in Glendale. I think I gained back a couple of those 35 pounds I lost this past year!
