Rio Verde courts to be renovated

Starting right after Labor Day the tennis courts at the Rio Verde Tennis Club will be getting a facelift.

In a two phase project, two of the courts are being replaced under warranty from the manufacturer and installer who put the courts in during 2004.

As part two of the project the RVCA Board of Directors has agreed to advance a resurfacing project by one year to get the work done with a discount while the crews are on site.

The warranty work has been agreed to by the manufacturer and contractor who installed the state of the art Nova Pro Bounce courts in 2004.

Rio Verde Tennis Club Professional Mike Davey said they were having problems with two of the courts with dead spots and erratic bounces.

Davey said the representatives of the manufacturer and contractor have agreed there is an issue, but the exact cause of the problem has not been identified.

Before the five-year warranty expires in October, the contractor has agreed to replace two of the six courts that are showing unusual wear.

The second part of the project is maintenance work that was scheduled for 2010. Reserves of $25,000 have been set aside for resurfacing and repainting of all the courts. The contractor has offered to do this work for $12,960 while his crew is here replacing the two courts.

The RVCA board has approved the resurfacing not to exceed $14,000.

The favorable cost saving quote also includes sealing the edges of all the courts to prevent water damage.

Work is scheduled to begin immediately after Labor Day and is expected to be completed by the first of October.

Davey said they will be able to use four of the courts for a couple of weeks while the first two are being replaced.

The club will close to tennis activity during the resurfacing project that includes all six courts.

Davey has reminded members that there will be a lot of disruption during the first couple of weeks while play continues.

“It is going to be a major construction zone around here,” Davey said.
