Pondering various ponderables

What is Brett Favre thinking?

What is Don Kile contemplating?

And what about Dr. Kari King?

Are we going to escape a summer wildfire in the area?

These are the things that I ponder and cause me to toss and turn every night in bed.

Should I go to the pool or the ocean tomorrow?

Should I order a cerveza or a margarita?

What kind of tattoo?

These are the types of ponderings one does in Rocky Point, Mexico, on a brief but adequate vacation respite.

Both are necessary, I suppose, as work overload allows one to enjoy the vacations even more. The one trouble with this business, however, is that a weekly deadline constantly looms over you.

Other staff members pick up the slack, of course, but there always seems to be plenty of catching up when you get back from vacation – even in July.

As for Brett Favre, of Green Bay Packer fame, I have no idea what he is thinking. Either retire or don’t. After the tearful farewell a few months ago, I would think it would be kind of embarrassing to talk about making a comeback. It’s not unprecedented in professional sports, however, as all types of men and women just can’t seem to move on. Some are more successful than others…

As for Don Kile of Ellman Cos. fame, I’m guessing his thought pattern was this – why wait for a referendum vote in November when perhaps the petitions were faulty? Why suffer more delays when he doesn’t have to? Why spend money on a campaign when the premise is not legal? Let the courts decide.

As for those pushing for their God-given right to pursue an election, I get that thought process. And support it. I just don’t get what they think they have to gain by the process. If the alternative was better, then I’d be all for it.

And, as it turns out, Mr. Kile has won the first round in court. Not sure if the opposition should even pursue an appeal at this point. The whole thing, at least in my estimation, has been an embarrassment for Fountain Hills.

As for Dr. Kari King, the high school principal this past year, we hardly knew ye…

Many of us didn’t realize her husband was the boys’ basketball coach and a math teacher at the school, and many of us also didn’t realize her first year at FHHS would be her last.

I heard from a real reliable source that one of the issues out there – besides the two of them being unable to sell their house back in Illinois – had to do with some School Board members always trying to micro-manage Dr. King’s duties.

There is always a delicate balancing act on public bodies between setting policy and watching someone else enact those policies.

Elected officials are always getting hit up by constituents about specific issues that really can only be handled by staff members. Where do you draw the line between being a concerned board member or an actively involved Town Council member as opposed to making sure a specific outcome is carried out to the desired end?

Lot of potential gray area…

As for the wildfire threat, I think we’ve escaped the most dangerous time. Recent rains have helped.

As for Mexico, that’s a bit easier – first the ocean, then time to hit the pool. First a margarita, then the cerveza.

The tattoo? Ah, it’s henna, so it really doesn’t matter. Pick any design! It will wash off -- eventually.
