Mike Tyler wrote a letter to the editor to point out that “I have not received any compensation from the town for any Business Excellence Seminars since declaring my candidacy for Town Council.” Another letter writer stated, “Mike Tyler has not received a penny from the town this fiscal year…” These statements are hoping that you won’t read between the lines.
But the residents of Fountain Hills are smarter than that. While Tyler may not be currently receiving monetary compensation from the town, he has in the past. In fact, the last seminar he ran was a joint partnership between the Chamber and the town and each split all the expenses equally including Tyler’s salary.
That’s the spin. Now for the flip-flop. At all the debates during the election, Tyler clearly stated that he was in favor of a property tax. He was the head of the town-sponsored SPAC that recommended putting the property tax on the ballot after the citizen survey overwhelmingly said no. But he wants to get elected and that nagging, extremely unpopular property tax is getting in his way. So he tells The Arizona Republic that he hasn’t said that he supports the tax. That is a lie, and anyone who had even remotely paid attention to the last election knows that for sure.
Mr. Tyler, who has been in our town for a short five years, thinks he can deceive us into voting for him. He thinks he can “educate” us that we should give up more of our hard-earned money. Let’s show Mr. Tyler that the people of Fountain Hills expect honesty and integrity from their elected officials, and when we say “no” we really mean it. Vote for Dennis Contino and vote no on the property tax.
