No more traffic

My neighbors and I are the residents of the existing neighborhood of Richwood and Boulder that abuts the former state trust land. We have watched with great interest the development of the plans for the new sub-division about to be built there, and the plans, so far, sound pretty good.

We believe that the proposed extension of Richwood and Boulder into the new sub-division will have significant negative impact on our neighborhood, introducing traffic into our neighborhood that our streets are not equipped to handle.

Our neighborhood’s streets are only two lane, curvy and hilly, with no sidewalks and no street lighting. All of the houses on Richwood and Boulder have driveways that adjoin the streets, and people back out or pull out of their driveways directly onto these streets.

We very actively use our neighborhood streets for walking, sometimes with our dogs and children, pushing our babies in strollers, biking, even skateboarding. Our children wait for school buses in the morning and for their parents to pick them up in the afternoon.

There are currently traffic hazards in the neighborhood. Cars disregard stop signs, race up and down the very steep hill on Richwood, and park on the street forcing traffic to operate in one lane only. Introducing a greater volume of traffic will only make these already hazardous areas even more dangerous.

We believe there is no practical need for traffic from the new development to come into our neighborhood via Richwood or Boulder. These streets lead only to residential areas.

For our neighborhood to remain relatively safe and enjoyable, all that we ask is that Richwood and Boulder not be extended into the new development. All that we ask for are two cul-de-sacs.
