Parks are public

This is in response to Mr. Kocher’s complaint about dogs at the Fountain Park.

Let me start by saying I am a proud dog owner who always keeps her dog leashed and picks up after him. I am also allowed to go anywhere within our parks I please and that includes the sidewalks outside the cafes and restaurants in town, some of which actually invite people with dogs to sit on their patios.

If you want dogs banned from the Fountain Park, then does it not follow in reasoning that children should not be allowed in the dog park? If you ask the Parks Department, they will tell you since all our parks are open to the public, they cannot ban one group over another, and that includes pet owners.

If you bothered to do a little research before you sent in your venom-filled letter, you would have found out that the development and upgrades of our dog park was not funded by the town alone. It was a collaboration between the ADOG members, fundraising, grants and, yes, some town money.

We do not yet live in a communistic society that tells us where, when and how to live, so get over it.
