The Verdes Art League Spring Art Show & Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the Rio Verde Community Center.

This is an opportunity to see the work of about 25 Verde artists, many of whom have won awards locally and nationally for their creativity. These Verde artists work in a wide variety of media including jewelry, paintings, textiles, photography, greeting cards, decorative gourds, wood carving, ceramics, leatherwork and glass.

In addition, there will be a silent auction of artwork donated by the participating artists.

On Friday, March 22, Phoenix Art Museum docent Grant Colwell will present an informative program on “Baroque” at 2 p.m. in the Rio Verde Community Center Multi-purpose Room.

Colwell will explore the “Battle of the Baroque,” a classic rivalry between the Dutch in the north and the Italians in the south. To illustrate the “battle” he will compare and contrast the art and the audiences of 17th century artists Vermeer and Caravaggio both revered as “Masters of Light.” Who prevailed in the “Battle of the Baroque”? Residents are invited to attend the program and decide for themselves.
