The queens rule at the Fountain Hills Youth Theater

Posted

As a newer resident of Fountain Hills, I am still discovering local treasures that add so much to the quality of life in our little desert town. Quite honestly, I didn’t expect much from a small-town youth theater production. And, wow, was I ever wrong.

The young ladies who made up the cast of “Six,” a musical that brings to life the complicated lives of the wives of Henry VIII, did not exceed my expectations, they blew them away. Their acting, singing and dancing was phenomenal.

Each of the actors told their story as a bride of Henry in the order in which they were chosen, so the refrain was, “divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.” While that sounds dreary, it was carried out in a very creative and humorous manner.

Catherine Parr, the wife who outlived Henry, was the survivor. Ann of Cleves, who was rejected by Henry as not being attractive enough, sang a hysterically funny song about him not liking her profile picture. A little 21st Century fun. And was there one queen who stood out? No, because each individual performance was amazing, just like this production.
