Rutkowski: ‘Rules matter’ topic at Tea Party meeting

Posted

Most of us were raised with the idea that there are rules and that rules matter. You follow them! If you don’t like them, you still follow them until you’re able to change them. You don’t ignore them. Yet, we’ve seen so many examples of when this didn’t happen; we have seen “rule for thee, but not for me” happen too many times, and it seems to be occurring more frequently and more blatantly in recent years.

One area in which rules are important is our elections. Our election process is under the control of the county recorder and the Maricopa Board of Supervisors. The last few elections haven’t gone too smoothly in terms of logistics and there remain questions about signature verification, the accuracy of the voter rolls, etc.

Another area is the conduct of public officials and how they discharge (and sometimes abuse) the responsibility and authority of their office.

On Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m., Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party will address the idea of why rules matter and how we can make them matter in government. We will welcome Michelle Ugenti-Rita, candidate for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. Also expected to join the meeting is Mark Spencer, from Judicial Watch, and organization whose mottos is, “Because no one is above the law.”

The meeting on March 21 will be held at the Fountain Hills Community Center.  As always, all interested parties are welcome to attend, listen, ask questions and get informed. Admission is free but donations to cover expenses are welcomed and appreciated. Fountain Hills AZ Tea Party is a local not-for-profit organization established in 2010 and which continues to provide education about important issues of government and governing.  I hope you're able to join us.  For more Information, please visit fhteaparty.us
