The Fountain Hills Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the 14000 block of Caliente Drive Wednesday afternoon, June 12.

The call came in at about 4 p.m., and the first crews on the scene reported visible smoke and flames, upgrading the assignment.

Acting Fire Chief Randy Roberts said the fire was at the rear of the home on an enclosed patio area. The crew made a quick attack and prevented the blaze from spreading further.

Roberts said the fire is believed to have started accidentally by discarded smoking material.

Damage was confined to the patio area walls, ceiling and contents. Damage was estimated at $2,000.
