On Saturday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m., the Gold Canyon UMC Performing Arts Series will be hosting a special, free-admission event, the Northwestern College of Iowa’s A Capella Choir. The choir will be touring several states including concerts at churches and venues in Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, and here in Arizona. The 46-member ensemble is directed by Dr. Thomas Holm, professor of music. The choir has performed across the U.S. and made international tours to destinations such as Taiwan, Denmark and Sweden. Rated one of the nation’s best colleges by Money magazine, Northwestern provides an education committed to stand-out academics and a Christ-centered worldview. The choir’s varied program includes sacred works such as Palestrina’s “Sicut Cervus,” a set of rousing and reflective spirituals, as well as choral works from Latvia, Taiwan, and the US including Robert Shaw’s rendition of the Irish ballad “Johnny, I hardly knew ye.” It’s bound to be an uplifting experience. Handicap accessible, doors open 30 minutes prior.
