Meehan to retire at end of school year

McDowell Mountain Elementary School Principal Joanne Meehan has announced her retirement after a long career in the education field.

Capping off 45 years in education (30 of which have been within the Fountain Hills Unified School District and 17 of those at her current position), Meehan said that she is excited about the prospects of retirement, with traveling and golf already on the itinerary.

The School Board and other district officials were notified last week.

According to FHUSD Superintendent Tom Lawrence, Meehan will be leaving behind some pretty big shoes to fill.

“Mrs. Meehan has been a pillar in this community for so many years and her contributions to the district and the community cannot be overstated,” Lawrence said.

“She has positively impacted the lives of so many children and families, her daily presence will truly be missed.”
