Kelloff enjoys honor flight

Posted

WW II Navy veteran George Kelloff recently presented VFW Post 7507 Commander Al Shattuck with a flag and certificate he received at Ft. McHenry while he was participating in an Honor Flight.

The flag is to be flown at the new Veterans’ Community Center and post home once built.

Honor Flight Arizona flies all WW II veterans back to the Washington D.C. area to visit the veterans’ memorials, particularly WW II Memorial.

Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation – and as a culturally diverse, free society.

Now, with 1500 World War II veterans dying each day nationwide, the nation’s time to express thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s WW II veterans for all their sacrifices.

It transports, at no cost to the veteran, our heroes to Washington, D.C. to reflect and be honored at their memorials.

Veterans participating in Honor Flight need not be VFW members. All eligible veterans are invited to inquire at the VFW Post about participation.

Donations for Honor Flight can be made to VFW Post 7507 marked for Honor Flight or they can be made directly to Honor Flight by sending a check to Honor Flight AZ, P.O. Box 12258, Prescott, AZ 86304.

George Kelloff is one of 16 VFW Post 7507 member to participate in Honor Flight. He is a WW II Navy veteran who was temporarily assigned to Ft McHenry before becoming a plankowner crewmember of the USS Mindanao ARG-3.

After a shakedown cruise in the Chesapeake Bay, Mindanao sailed for training at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and then through the Panama Canal and service in the South Pacific, later serving at Guadalcanal, the Philippines and eventually at Okinawa.
