The River of Time Museum and Exploration Center announced the opening of its latest art exhibit featuring the work of Hopi artist Travis Tubinaghtewa.
His work is available for public viewing free of charge from Saturday, Jan. 6 through Thursday, March 29.
The public is also invited to attend the artist’s opening reception Saturday, Jan. 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the River of Time Art Gallery. The event is free and light refreshments are available.
The exhibit is titled, “We Are Still Here -- Sharing the Hopi Story.” Tubinaghtewa is a registered member of the Hopi tribe, a painter and a Kachina carver. His work is currently sold at the Heard Museum in Phoenix and his works will also be priced for sale at the River of Time.
It’s been said that Travis Tubinaghtewa is on track to becoming a unique component in the Hopi art world, a press release read. He grew up in what he describes as “two worlds,” receiving a formal education in the city, but also able to travel to participate in ancient Hopi ceremonies. His work is a blend of modern art practices and Native American imagery with respectful nods to his background.
A Tempe resident, Tubinaghtewa is a graduate of Fine Arts at Phoenix College. His father is Buddy Tubinaghtewa, a famous Kachina carver.
The River of Time Museum & Exploration Center is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit riveroftime.center.
