Members of the Fountain Hills Republican Club marched alongside the “float” at the Thanksgiving Day Parade carrying signs featuring license plates from all over the country.

Club members tossed candy to children as they marched alongside horses, cars, marching bands, kids, floats, politicians and elected officials.

“Macy’s Day parade has nothing on Fountain Hills Thanksgiving Day Parade,” club spokesperson Nancy Plencner said, adding that it is the largest Thanksgiving parade this side of the Mississippi.

“This year’s theme was Western and pointed out that most of us were not born in Arizona but we had the good sense to move here,” Plencner added.

The Fountain Hills Republican Club is a 300-plus member organization for Republicans and like-minded individuals.

The community is invited to swing by the Community Center to see the Christmas Tree put up by the Fountain Hills Republican Club and Four Peaks Young Republicans.

“You cannot miss it in the lobby, it’s the only one topped with American flags,” Plencner said.

The next Republican Club meeting is Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Community Center. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge, and guests are welcome.
