Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association launches 2024 membership drive

Town and member support helps to maintain ‘Dark Sky Community’ status

After a successful 2023, the Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association (FHDSA) has launched its 2024 membership drive.

It’s with the support of its members and volunteers that the Town of Fountain Hills has maintained its certification as the world’s 17th International Dark Sky Community, wrote FHDSA President Vicky Derksen in a press release.

FHDSA accomplished several key projects last year, including the annual Dark Sky Festival in March with over 2,500 attendees and hosting over 50 unique educational and celestial events locally to raise awareness for the benefits of smart outdoor lighting, Derksen added.

Fountain Hills is now featured in the “Lights Out” exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., Derksen said.

Fountain Hills and East Valley residents are invited to join the Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association with an annual membership of just $25.

In addition to receiving monthly newsletters and special invitations to educational and social events throughout the year, members are invited to an appreciation dinner and private stargazing party.
