Unseeded 16-year-old shines in Kalamazoo

There’s a rising star in junior tennis with roots right here in Fountain Hills.

Sixteen-year-old Andrej Markovic recently made his debut at the USTA Boys National Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Known by tennis fans as “The Zoo,” the tournament is widely regarded as the most prestigious junior tennis tournament in the country, with the event’s winner earning a coveted spot into the main draw of the U.S. Open in Queens, New York, a dream opportunity shared by past Kalamazoo champions like Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz and Andy Roddick, to name a few.
