Capital override talk at School Board

Posted

A possible capital outlay override in the November election and performance-based compensation for Superintendent Tom Lawrence are Wednesday night's big talking points at the School Board meeting.

The June 11 meeting is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. at the Learning Center, with the board going into an executive session to discuss the superintendent’s performance goals for the 2013-14 school year.

The board’s discussion will guide an action item later in the meeting, determining whether or not Lawrence will receive performance-based compensation, per his contract.

While the executive session will be held behind closed doors, the remainder of the night’s meeting will be open to the public and is expected to resume at 6:30 p.m.

With the 2013-14 school year all wrapped up and the 2014-15 school year still a little ways off, the bulk of tonight’s agenda will cover annual housekeeping items.

During the discussion portion, the board will go over the proposed budget for 2014-15, as well as meet and confer agreements.

The extracurricular fee schedule, which only saw minor adjustments in comparison to the previous school year, will also be up for a vote.

The board will have a say on a special dedication for the Learning Center, as well as the potential capital override discussed at the late May meeting.

If approved, the board would call for a Fountain Hills vote on a capital override that would provide $750,000 for district needs including textbooks, technology, assessment tools, mechanical equipment, etc.

Passage of this override would continue funding provided by an existing override and would not impact the current tax rate. If approved, the capital override election would be held in November.
