Ballot question arguments due

Posted

The November election is still more than three months away but the first deadline related to the ballot is fast approaching.

The Town of Fountain Hills and the School District both have questions on the Nov. 5 ballot asking voters to approve financial issues that will impact property taxes.

The town is seeking $8.2 million for reconstruction of Saguaro Boulevard, while FHUSD wants $8 million in capital improvement bonds and voter approval of budget override extensions.

There will be publicity pamphlets published for each of the bond questions on the ballot, and those interested in submitting a pro or con argument for the pamphlet have until next week to submit their comments.

The deadline to submit arguments to the town for the Saguaro bond question is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Submittals should be sent to the Fountain Hills Town Clerk’s Office, 16705 E. Avenue of the Fountains, Fountain Hills 85268.

Individuals or groups may submit their argument either “for” or “against” the bond question.

Arguments cannot exceed 300 words in length and must contain the original, notarized signature of each person sponsoring the comment.

If sponsored by an organization, the original, notarized signatures of two executive officers are required.

If sponsored by a political committee, the original notarized signature of the committee’s chair or treasurer is required.

The address and phone number of each signer must be included on the argument but will not be printed in the pamphlet.

A payment of $100 to offset a portion of the cost of paper and printing the pamphlet must accompany the filing of each argument.

A copy of the argument submitted on CD is appreciated.

Additional information regarding the arguments or the bond election may be directed to the Fountain Hills Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall, 480-816-5115, or bbender@fh.az.gov.

Arguments for this pamphlet are limited to 200 words. The statements must be signed and include the name of the district, author’s name, the name of any entity submitting an argument, address and telephone number.

Additional information concerning the election may be obtained by contacting the Fountain Hills Unified School District, No. 98, 16000 E. Palisades Blvd., Fountain Hills, AZ 85268, or 480-664-5060.
