The Town of Fountain Hills Recreation Department begins a new round of popular archery classes beginning Monday, Jan. 8, for those wanting to learn the sport.
This class teaches the safe and proper way to shoot a compound bow. Instructor Bill Gerchar is trained through the National Archery in the Schools Program as a basic archery instructor.
Gerchar teaches the 11 steps to archery success by using a string bow. Students will shoot at targets using real bows and arrows. Students do not need to provide their own bow.
Organizers said archery is a very safe sport and, as long as instruction is followed, it will be an enjoyable experience. The class is not just for children. Anyone ages 8 and older and interested in learning a new skill is encouraged to sign up.
The beginners’ class meets Mondays, Jan. 8 through Feb. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Four Peaks Park. This class is $60.
Preregistration is required for these courses. Register online at fh.az.gov/recreation, or in person at Town Hall or the Community Center.
