The first week of the Lady Falcons’ soccer season is in the books with the home team earning two victories in a row.
After besting both North Pointe Prep and Benjamin Franklin High School in regular play, the Falcons continued their season with a Dec. 11 road match against the team from Miami. This afternoon, Dec. 13, the Lady Falcons will welcome the squad from Northwest Christian to the home field at 4 p.m. That will conclude the 2017 portion of the season, with play set to resume in early January.
North Pointe
The Lady Falcons lit up the scoreboard in a big way during their season opener, scoring seven goals in the first half and another seven in the second to best the visiting team from North Pointe Prep by a final score of 14-0 on Dec. 6.
Head coach Gary Shindler highlighted a trio of freshmen from this outing, noting that Lindsey McMahon, Parker Sweet and Ashbey Owen led the way with a combined nine goals.
According to Shindler, the local ladies were just as tough on defense as they were on offense this outing.
“[We] controlled the game throughout and did not allow any shots on goal,” he added.
Benjamin Franklin
Back on the home field the very next night, the Falcons met some much stiffer competition when they squared off against the Benjamin Franklin Chargers.
Shindler noted that the Falcons’ opponent was 3-0 heading into the game and that they played some very aggressive soccer.
“In the first half [we] controlled the ball but missed on many shots on goal,” he added. “It was 0-0 at halftime.”
Back from the mid-game breather, the Falcons finally broke through the BFHS defense to find a pair of goals and earn a 2-0 victory.
“In the second half we hammered away at the Benjamin Franklin defense, scoring two goals and securing the win,” Shindler added. “Madison George and Parker Sweet controlled the middle of the field, denying any of Benjamin Franklin’s advances.”
